A qualitative empirical study describes Finnish professional criminals and their organizations, as well as their cross-border criminal operations. The subjects in the study are 14 Finnish group active in the 1990s in the smuggling of alcohol, tobacco and drugs, the procuring of prostitutes, and/or the handling of stolen goods. The analysis describes the personal characteristics of the groups members, the crimes they commit, and the structures of their criminal groups.
