Situational crime prevention and problem-oriented policing (POP)are related approaches that center on reducing people's opportunities to commit crime by creating more crie-resistant environments, products and systems. But these two related approaches share a weakness: they have in the past neglected implementation, the stage when prevention measures are put into practice. The 12 contributing authors to this volume are all researchers with a long-standing interest in crime prevention, who have also been directly involved in implementing situational or problem-oriented projects. Their chapters provide both practical guidance and general principles concerning how to get the most out of crime prevention projects.

The volume's co-editors -- Johannes Knutsson (Norwegian Police University College) and Ronald V. Clarke (Rutgers University) -- are senior and highly respected scholar/activists in the crime prevention field. Their introductory chapter offers ten concise guidelines for effectively implementing prevention initiatives.
